One Step Closer to My Dream

  • Apr. 2nd, 2010 at 8:34 PM
BUCKET
So, I tweet. A lot. And a lot of the accounts I follow are also the hockey blogs I follow.

So today I was browsing Twitter, and one of my favourite blogs, Russian Machine Never Breaks had a feature of an artist around my age who follows the blog. So I decided to e-mail them a few of my pieces. 10 minutes later, I got this response:

Rachel,

These are fantastic!  You've got a great eye and great style.

Would you allow us to reprint your images?  They're too good not go be seen.  We'll probably do something like this again next week-- right near the end of the regular season; would that work?

Keep up the great work.

MY ARTWORK IS GOING TO BE FEATURED ON A CAPS BLOG. I AM SO HAPPY, I WANT TO CRY.

I'll def post the link once it's up. :)

I-CON REPORT~

  • Mar. 28th, 2010 at 11:04 PM
FRANCEEEE
I-CON was awesome! It was my first time going, and I had a blast~

Friday (which was also my birthday, lol): After fighting a shitton of traffic, we made it to NY around 6-ish (we planned on getting there between 3 and 4). Instead of going to my friend Blair's (whom we were staying with) place, me, my roommate Rachel, and our pal Ban went right to I-CON. I threw on my Sweden cosplay in the parking lot, which involved sewing two buttons back on the coat, then proceeded to stand in the pre-reg pickup for an hour. It was DAMN COLD. DX But it moved semi-quick.
Most of the early evening was spent in the dealers room perusing and finding friends of ours. Later on, we went to the "Whose Line is it Anime?" panel to kill time. Ben ended up being a participant, which was the best part of the whole panel. There was also a guy at the panel dressed in a cosplay that involved a very VERY tight spandex suit.... let's just say the line of the night for Rach and I was, "Why, oh why, oh why can we see his penis?" /sobbu
After the panel, we decided to check out the REPO: the Genetic Opera Shadowcast. I'm not the biggest REPO fan, but it was quite entertaining. The actor for Graverobber was SPOT ON. :D And so, ended Friday night. The three of us headed over to Blair's to catch some Z's for Saturday,

Saturday:
Again, was Sweden. Hoping the day would go better cosplay-wise. Friday I was kind of wishing I had brought Scout too. :< After a hearty breakfast we headed out to the con. There weren't any panels that interested us that morning, so we went to the kid's room to play with play-dough. XD Also ran into one of the guys I had talked to on the I-CON thread on Cosplay.com in the dealers room, which was super cool. :D
That afternoon, after meeting up with a large group of friends, we all went to go see the Ghostbusters one-man show. It was one of the best panels I have ever been to. This guy, in under and hour, preformed the entire Ghostbusters movie, line for line,  complete with voices, a few props, and a Stay-Puft marshmallow man hat. SO worth going to it! :D
After the show, we quickly went to the dealer's room. Before I-CON, I had been a little grown-out of Hetalia, mostly 'cause the bad rep caused by some fans (lame, I know). While standing outside the dealer's room, a young girl dressed as Canada ran up to me and exclaimed "Sweden! We need you to join our world conference!" Lightly grabbed my arm, and pulled me aside to a small room with a table. There were, say 6 or 7 more countries sitting around the table, and were so happy to see me. They. Were. The most.... ADORABLE Hetalia cosplayers I have ever met. Despite the fact they were much younger than me (maybe?), they were sweet, not rowdy, and very cheerful. We talked for a bit, took some photos (I wish I gotten a pic with them, they were too cute), and then Rach and I had to leave to find Ben before my photoshoot (which went really well, I cannot wait to see how the photos came out!) After that little encounter, let's just say my fandom has been restored. X3
Since the shoot got done early, my pals and I went to "Why People Suck." just because. Not really a good panel, honestly. I thought it would be semi-humorous. Instead it seemed to be to be a (pretty ignorant) hate-fest on people. Feels bad, man. The highlight of that panel was getting to meet another person from Cosplay.com. She was dressed as Scout's Ma, which made me SO HAPPY. >w<
After the panel, we headed back to Blair's for a quick break and dinner (which was DELICIOUS.) and then headed back to the con. A lot of our friends went to the dance, but Rach, Ben and I decided to stay at the con on campus. There weren't any panels we wanted to go to, so we went to the game room (as in board games, which was sweet). We played one board game before Ben came up with an idea: Empty out all the cards (ID, membership bards, business cards, trading cards, etc.) from out wallet/bag and we made up our own game, which was SO MUCH FUN. XD the rules are super-complicated, but methinks we'll be playing again at our club meeting Wed. XD Afterwards, we hit up Baccano! (which I really need to finish.. love that show), and then headed back to Blair's.

Sunday: Mostly spent in the dealer's room. I honestly didn't buy much, just a few small things. Was planning on buying a jumperskirt, but I saw no prints I really loved, which made me sad. D: On the way back to campus, we made a pit stop at Rachel's house since it was on the way and then came back. All and all, very successful con. X3

PHOTOS!

My Sweden cosplay. I'll have better pics soon.

My friend Ben as Trafalgar Law from One Piece. He looked awesome. 8D

TF2 cosplayers. :D I caught the RED Engineer dancing in the reg line. It made me giggle. :'D

STAR TREK CAR EFF YES XDDD

Dr. Horrible~

Maylene was adorable. :D Finni and Bard were good too.

That Bill couldn't have been more than 12, which is hilarious. :'D

SCOUT'S MA~ <3

THESE KIDS WERE SO EFFING CUTE. <33333

EDGEY-POO. XD The only Ace Attorney cosplayer I saw all weekend. According to her, there was a Gumshoe walking around Sat... Sad I missed him. :(

That's about it! I didn't take too many photos. D: Weekend well spent, I must say.

Writer's Block: Lucky pants

  • Mar. 6th, 2010 at 9:27 PM
DATASS

Do you have a lucky or unlucky piece of clothing? If you have a lucky garment, when do you wear it and what sort of luck has it brought you? If you have an unlucky piece of clothing, why do you keep it? Do you ever wear it just to see what happens?

HAHAHA NOT REALLY.

FINALLY finished Scout's headset. took me like, what? A month? Month and a half? LOL It was mostly due to the fact I had to a lot of painting and re-painting to get a smooth coat of spray paint on the damn thing. And the fact I was being super-anal on details. But here we are:
AND YES, I AM WEARING A GHOSTBUSTERS SHIRT. I GOT IT FROM MY ROOMIE AND I LOVE IT SO MUCH. IT HAD A PROTON PACK ON THE BACK. FFF---- SO MUCH WIN.
Aaaaand I took my first attempt at the handwraps:

Hey, Look! I'm turnin' into a frickin' mummy (jk)! )

I promise no more updates on Scoot until I start working on the FaN. Which should be soon... I hope.

One final note: I started using twitter. o__o @Kat326. I tweet about really dumb shit. lol

YOU WANKER. BELGIUM WAS NEUTRAL.

Worst. Week. Ever. EVERRRRRRRR.

I am not an abstract artist.  I do not draw/paint/create abstract art. 90% of the time, I dislike abstract art. I just don’t get it. And now what we are doing in drawing  (abstraction) confuses me to no end. First, we had the peanut drawing. When I sketched out my thumbnail, I was happy with my composition and choice of shading and such. But I am so displeased with the final product I just want to throw it away. It looks like it was drawn by a 6th grader, and is totally smudged and I hate it so much. Now we’re doing this thing where we brought in an object and everyone took turns drawing it on one paper. Which means I have no control over my composition, AND it tackles my biggest pet peeve: people touching my stuff. Now we have to take all those drawings and make them not look like the object or something. I don’t know. The more I ask Harriet, the more confusing she makes it. And the more confusing she makes it, the more pissed off I become. And the more pissed off I become, the more I want to stab myself in the throat with my pencil. UGH.  Last note: We move way too fast in that class. We’ve already had 5 or 6 assignments. That’s like, the total number we had last semester. I work fast, but not that fast! Having multiple projects in a week’s span for one class is not my idea of a good time. I haven’t really been proud of my work this semester in Drawing, with the exception of out first project, WHICH WASN’T EVEN GRADED.  GUHH, I NEED TO SMASH MORE FRUIT WITH A BAT.

ALSO: RUSSIA AND SWEDEN ELIMINATED ON THE SAME FUCKING NIGHT. THERE GO TWO OF MY 3 OLYPIC MEDAL PREDICTIONS. USA, MAKE ME PROUD, DAMMIT.
